The Cuban five pesos dated 2011 is devoted to Antonio Maceo and one of the best-known episodes of the wars of independence, the Protest of Baraguá.
Antonio Maceo Grajales was a major general of the Liberation Army, known as the «Bronze Titan», hero of the Protest of Baraguá and of the campaign from the east to the west of the island.
The front shows Maceo's portrait and the back a scene of the Protest of Baraguá. The Central Bank of Cuba has printed this design since 1997 and keeps it in the current 2014 series.
The Maceo five is a key note for a «heroes of Cuban independence» collection, alongside the Martí peso and the Máximo Gómez ten; the year printed on the note allows the type to be collected by date. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
You can find companions for this banknote, by series or by year of issue, in the VPcoins catalogue.
